Subject: Request for Greater Compassion in LGBT+ Ministry
Dear Bishop [Last Name],
I write to you as a member of our diocese who values the Church’s call to treat all people with “respect, compassion, and sensitivity” (CCC 2358). I am concerned that our diocese’s current approach to LGBT+ individuals focuses primarily on sin while failing to see them as beloved children of God, made in His image and likeness.
LGBT+ people are part of our parishes, schools, and families, yet many feel unwelcome. While moral teachings are clear, what is needed now is greater pastoral care, education, and a demonstration of Christ’s love for this community.
I urge you to provide more formation for our diocese—clergy, educators, parish leaders, and parishioners—on engaging LGBT+ individuals with love and compassion. Our diocese must do more to accompany this community in its unique challenges, ensuring they encounter Christ’s mercy, not just moral instruction.
Please know of my prayers for you as you shepherd our diocese. I hope to see greater efforts toward fostering a Church that reflects Christ’s love and dignity for all.
In Christ, [Your Name]
